We love Disney! At least once a month we try to go, and the girls are really starting to love it as much as we do! So this year, we went all out with handmade costumes.
My little Daisy, princess Minnie, and a Mouseketeer. The hat was a pattern from Hopeful Honey, though I used my own pattern for the base of the hat. We got so many comments on this! I used the same idea to give my plain old hat a nice bow. The cool thing about my costume is the outfit was all handmade from vintage patterns! The blouse is from an amazing book, Gertie's New Book for Better Sewing, which is all old 50s patterns. I made it almost half a year ago, and have lost a TON of weight in that time, so I am going to have to take it in later. The skirt is a basic circle skirt from the book as well.
Hubby was Walt, of course! My little miss Daisy also had a white tutu, but it was really windy and cold that day, so we skipped if for this photo.
This really shows the details in the dress I made. I made this pattern using a shirt that fit her as a guide and went from there. There is elastic in the back to make it fit her longer, which is great because she cries when we have to take it off! The little white polka dots were sewn on by hand. The purple ribbon was from our wedding, so it is extra special to have it recycled into this! The ears are actually clips, the bow as well! I used an old headband that was too small for either of the girls. It's the ONLY way she will tolerate something in her hair, she likes looking like Minnie!
An action shot from the trick or treat event we went to.
Halloween has always been my favorite holiday, and I'm sure my love of crafting has a lot to do with that! Last year, when I was pregnant, we went as Goldilocks and the Three Bears, with my bump being baby bear. The year before that, I made my own Sailor Moon wig. Any excuse to make an outfit makes me happy!
What were you for Halloween? Did you craft anything?
